Borsa İstanbul A.Ş. (“Borsa İstanbul”) announced on 22 September 2026 (the “Announcement”) that the up-tick rule has become applicable as of 22 September 2026 to shares included in the BIST 50 Index that are eligible for short selling and will remain in effect until further notice.
Up-Tick Rule to Apply to Short-Selling Transactions
Pursuant to the Announcement, short-selling transactions in shares eligible for short selling may be executed at a price higher than the most recent transaction price of the relevant capital market instrument.
However, where the most recent transaction price of the relevant capital market instrument is higher than the preceding transaction price, a short-selling transaction may also be executed at the most recent transaction price.
Same-Day Closed Sales Also Constitute Short-Selling Transactions
Borsa İstanbul also reiterated that sales of shares that are not owned by an investor at the time of sale and are closed through purchases made on the same day are also considered short-selling transactions.
Accordingly, investors and investment firms are required to mark the relevant orders as short sales when submitting such orders to the trading system.
The up-tick rule set out in the Announcement has become applicable and will remain in effect until further notice by Borsa İstanbul.
